How can we build resilient businesses in the face of rapid change?
This session will help you see your business through a resilience-orientated lens. It will explore some of the challenges we face personally and as a business operator during times of change. The session provide you with some tools and strategies for building resilience.
When a small business is started, we usually don’t spend a lot of time thinking about what happens when things go wrong. It is human nature to focus on the positives, to downplay the risks and over-estimate our abilities to manage them. Pretty quickly we settle into a pattern of working and coping with the day-to-day challenges of running the business. Eventually a crisis of some sort will happen. This could be a big ‘external’ event like a bushfire or Covid, or it could be an ‘internal’ event like workplace accident or a key business system crashing. Sometimes one event will trigger another creating a cascade of disruption through the business.
Regardless of the source of the disruption and whether the it has a financial, practical or personal impact, ultimately it will express in your brain. Humans are evolved to cope with short periods of stress, but when those levels persist, it will have serious implications for you, your relationships and all the decisions you need to make. Learning how to minimise stress, through anticipating and planning for disruption and recovery is one of the best strategies we can put in place to prevent this cascade of impacts from disruption.
In this interactive workshop, we will talk about the nature of disruptions, how ultimately it is our bodies and brains that suffer and the consequences of that and finally we will talk about some principles and strategies that we can draw on to manage disruption and build more resilient people and businesses.
