King Valley Fine Foods

In the King Valley, known for its vibrant landscapes and the lively La Dolce Vita festival, a tale of transformation and community spirit unfolds at King Valley Fine Foods. This story of entrepreneurship did not begin with a grand plan, but with serendipity and a deep connection to a place that Leanne and Ross Dodds had cherished as their holiday spot.

"It all started during one of our regular visits to the area," Ross recalled. "We were here, enjoying the festival vibes of La Dolce Vita when we stumbled upon an opportunity that was too intriguing to pass up." What they initially thought was a property for sale during a leisurely walk, turned out to be King Valley Fine Foods, a business they were familiar with from their previous visits.

The journey home to Melbourne was a whirlwind of excitement and contemplation. Leanne shared, "That drive back was filled with dreams and what-ifs. With our children now independent, it seemed like the universe was pointing us towards this new adventure in a place we already loved."

Embracing the challenge, Leanne and Ross took over King Valley Fine Foods, bringing a fresh wave of energy and innovation to the already beloved local business. "We wanted to put our stamp on it," said Ross. "We were ready to put in the hard work." However, their journey was not without tests, they faced local bushfires and the global pandemic. These challenges only served to deepen their connection with the community and reinforce their resilience.

Their integration into the local community, spurred by their love for the area and its people, became a cornerstone of their business philosophy. "We've always loved this place, and now we get to contribute to it in a new way," Ross remarked. Their relationships with customers and local businesses went beyond mere transactions, evolving into friendships and mutual support.

One such relationship was with Gerard, a customer who became a friend, thanks to his love for their chili pasta sauce. "Seeing Gerard 's reaction when we personalised a batch for him, that's what this journey is all about," Leanne said with a smile.

As they navigated the ups and downs of running a business, Leanne and Ross learned the importance of being adaptable and responsive to change. They undertook a significant rebranding of King Valley Fine Foods and laid plans for future expansion and product development, showcasing their commitment to evolving with the times while staying true to the essence of the business.

Ross's advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is clear: "Commitment is key. You've got to be ready to give it your all and push through the tough early years."

Their favorite product, the sun-dried tomato tapenade, has become a symbol of their journey, embodying their commitment to quality and the joy of their new life in the King Valley. Under their guidance, King Valley Fine Foods became more than a business; it is a story of embracing change, the power of community, and the happiness found in following one's heart to a place they truly loved.
